California Department of Aging

Description:

The California Department of Aging (CDA) serves older adults, adults with disabilities, family caregivers and residents in long-term care facilities through the state. It administers funds through the federal Older Americans Act, the Older Californians Act and through Medi-Cal Programs. The department contracts Area Agencies on Aging, which help find employment, support, promote healthy aging and community involvement.

Remarks:

This site has great information for state and federal programs that can help not only the individual but the caregivers as well. It holds information for all types of aging disabilities including, housing, independent living, health care, and much more. The website does not only help with the program it provides, but also has articles that talk about the present and future of this programs and how it affects the older generation.

Room for improvement:

The Site itself in its original form www.ca.gov is very difficult to navigate and find the California Department of Aging. The easiest way to find the aging department is by searching. Navigating is not the best way to search for departments. I believe prior knowledge of this department is needed.

El Camino Hospital The Hospital of Silicone Valley

Description:

A hospital that provides not only what every other hospital would offer but as well as other service such as, rooms for patients that are older adults, a program for both men and women's health, they also provide mental health services for anyone that is having suicidal thoughts, and etc.

Remarks:

This website is very good in how it present its information. It lets us know what they offer, where, how, and what if scenarios. For example there are no limitations to when someone can visit someone they left under the hospitals care however if there ever be a time where they must insist to no visitors they let you know why and inform you of everything.

 Room for Improvement:

This website honestly has everything. They have information, easy to understand and navigate. The only thing that would need improving or that would need to be added would be some videos maybe explaining how there whole operation works. However it is not not necessary although it would improve the website.

Challiance.org is a website dedicated to the Cambridge Hospital. Within this website, older adults are greeted with the option of becoming a patient of the hospital along with many other features. Such features include dates in which different events take place. The website also has facts helping older adults with different sicknesses.

Remarks:

The Cambridge Health Alliance has a helpful feature of allowing each individual to find a doctor. Just like a search engine, you are able to find your perfect doctor based on different characteristics through this website. This can really be helpful for people who are in need of medical help and want the perfect physician for them.

Room for Improvement:

The website overall has a great amount of information and features that can help any older adult navigate. It’s fairly easy to find whatever you are looking for such as a doctor or information about your health. The website can however work more on accessibility. Something such as categories and a menu will be more helpful to navigate for people who are new to technology.

This website shows us many tabs such as Healthy brain initiatives, healthy brain research, data and statistics and much more. Remarks:

The CDC has health information for older adults with different health issues or information on healthy activities. There's a training resource that inform people in case of an emergency on how they can help an older adult with something happens. It's a great resource that is alphabetized in topics, that will make it easier for people to find information.

Room for improvement:

They not only have information of adults that are aging but they have information on what to do to keep healthy. They also have source as to why they use specific methods and why they are effective. It's like a school for older adults so that they can keep in shape and be active. Only reason why its not a 5/5 is because Even though it has a lot of information it should also be simple and easy to use by a non-digital native.

The State of Mental Health and Aging in America

Description:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) gives information on aging adults suffering from mental health problem. This article contains data on older adults with high risk of mental disorders, percentages on each problem, and the types of mental problems older adults might face. This article focuses on 6 different topics and shows data in the US. The topic are Social Emotional Support, Life Satisfaction, Frequent Mantel Distress, Current Depression, Lifetime Diagnosis of Depression, and Lifetime Diagnosis of Anxiety Disorder. Each topic will give percentages basic on ethnicity.

Remarks:

This site did a good job laying out the percentages on each topic, different ethnicities that suffer from any of the 6 topics, and who is in high risk. Weaknesses on this article would be not giving solutions, how to cope with mental problem, or prevent mental problems on any of the 6 topics.

Room for improvement:

This site itself can be difficult to navigate and find detailed information. Some of the information give about other topics was broad and the article was outdated. One thing this website does have is many different topics in Diseases. It seems like people can find any topic, but will get broad information.

The website offers exceptional residential living along with assisted living and even skilled nursing available. They also offer affordable housing that gives seniors a great chance to engage with new people; new adventures stay active through lifelong learning. Human good also allows seniors couples to “stay together” and receive a different care. It offers a guidance of how to know when a parent shouldn’t live alone.

Remarks:

The site is pretty self explanatory, for instance on the menu tab you can see additional tabs such as resources, communities, living options getting started for those who are considering senior living. Videos are also available of residents who describe how their experience and how it helps some senior live more economically confortable. The website is also very visual with large pictures about retirement community members having a fun time. The site makes it easy to speak with an expert and can schedule a free consultation. Phone number and physical address is also available. In addition, human good is also available on Facebook and tweeter.

Room for improvement:

The website offers an easy enough guide to help older people to find resources available on the menu tab. It allows prospects to sign up for the latest news, tips and advice. However, there is always room for improvement such as making it available in other languages such as Spanish and Chinese. It would be nice to see different ethnicities living in senior living communities along with other cultures. In addition, links to other useful senior resources are not available.

National Library Services (NLS) provides a list of resources for senior citizens with disabilities over the age of 55. Some of these resources focus on; financial services, general health, work opportunities, psychological health, and Federal, State, and County benefits. NLS also provides information for caregivers in handling new physical, psychological, and financial challenges. Their purpose is to help and support senior citizens adapt to new disabilities such as deafness, blindness, and decreased mobility by providing information on benefits and programs they can access.

Remarks:

This site is well rounded with information for senior citizens. It provides information on financial resources, housing, and health services. When adapting to a new disability it is important to have this type of information because there are many programs available that senior citizens qualify for. The site is informative and includes links to multiple sites with information and programs for elderly adults. It is easy to maneuver and the site does a good job at adjusting the font size and the contrast on the page.

Room for improvement:

This site can be a bit overwhelming with all the information it provides, however a very useful attribution that the website offers is the search tab on top of the page. I like that you can adjust the font size on the page, but the website needs to be more accessible, such as providing a speech to text option.

Room for improvement:

A very well designed website and not much to be improved. The only one is that the letters are quite small, so larger icons should help.

Social Security: A Program and Policy History

Description:

This is an overall view of the history of social security. This article stated the events that happen to establish SSI. What I mainly focus on what on the elder when they get SSI and what kind of insurance, he/she can apply for. The most important fact was the birth of Medicare and any elder by the age of 65 can qualify. Overall, since 1950 to today there is 1 in 6 person that received SSI and benefits.

Remarks:

This website if full of information, but is can be overwhelming. The details presented are great knowledge. The website was easy to navigate. I think it website was great with details, but not your average person would be interested in reading all the whole article.

Room for improvement:

I think the article should have other link for in specific topics the article mentions. Also, I think the article should be structure for the general public to read easily.

Description:

PACE provides and coordinates different types of care for the older population. They provide adequate support to help the elderly stay in their homes and not have to be placed in a nursing home. Some of the services PACE offers are medical care, rehabilitation, medications, personal care, social interaction, and transportation. Enrollments and dis-enrollments occur at the beginning of every month. PACE is covered through Medical and Medicaid. For the clients, without medical insurance, an established payment is set during enrollment and it doesn’t change regardless of the services needed.

Remarks:

This site is easy to maneuver, and it provides great information on the services being provided as well as the requirements needed to qualify. The webpage has multiple tabs making it easier and simpler to narrow down information a client is looking for.

Room for improvement:

The site provides good information for our elderly population. They offer great support to families to keep their loved ones at home. I think that the site could improve by adding accommodation for our elderly population with a visual or hearing impairment.

Description:

This website assists elderly individuals feel comfortable and safe in their own home without having to be put into an old folks home. This website allows for elders to look at their options and see what might be better for them as in living in an old folks home or being able to stay in their residents but still have the 24 hour care that they might need in order to feel comfortable and safe.

Remarks:

This site gives good information to those who are looking for a better option rather than having to move into a new environment that they might not be comfortable with. They break down everything into sections and allow them to pick and choose what benefits them and also help them look for a home that would be most convenient.

Room for improvement:

The site can simplify their searches for individuals who are not so skilled when it comes to computers. It is a bit difficult to navigate from one question a person might have to another because of the extra information that is given that can veer away from the customers main question.
