Feasibility of Parent Training via Telehealth for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Disruptive Behavior: A Demonstration Pilot. Major Theme:

Researchers have done a large size controlled trial parent training intervention (i.e., Research Unit on Behavioral Intervention – Parent Training (RUBI-PT)) in 2015. The current study is to modify the intervention delivery method to a Telehealth model. The target audience is parents/caregivers of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the rural or under-served areas, and purpose of the training is to educate parents how to deal with problematic behaviors of their children. The participants include 14 parents. The feasibility test yields positive result and the preliminary result also showed promising effects albeit the challenges of implementing necessary technology.

Note:

Feasibility includes attrition, fidelity, adherence, and satisfaction. Multiple assessments were used for screening, fidelity and efficacy. In addition, independent evaluators and clinicians were recruited for the feasibility analyses.

Assessment used:

  1. Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule 2nd edition (ADOS-2)
  2. Standford-Binet IQ test and Mullen Scales of Early Learning
  3. Social Communication Questionnaire Lifetime (SCQ)
  4. Treatment Fidelity Checklist (TFC)
  5. Parent Treatment Adherence Scale (PTAS)
  6. Parent Satisfaction Questionnaire (RUPP)
  7. Aberrant Behavior Checklist (ABC)
  8. Home Situation Questionnaire-Autism Spectrum Disorder (HSQ-ASD)
  9. Parent Target Problem (PTP)
  10. Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales 2nd Edition (VABS-II)
  11. And other study specific instruments
